The executive power includes the president of the Republic and the Council of Ministers. The president of the Republic is the representative of the nation, the Head of the State, the government and the armed forces.

The legislative power is consisted by a congress of 120 elected members, as for the president of the Republic, by a universal vote, for a 5 year period.

The judicial power, which presidency is held by the president of the Supreme Court, is the institution charged to manage justice through its hierarchical departments: the Justice of the Peace, the high court and the supreme court of justice of the Republic.

Administratively, Peru is divided in 25 areas (or departments), 194 provinces and 1624 districts. The elections of the regional and municipal (provincial and district) authorities take place every 5 years.
